Virginia is such a pretty heroine. I love just she looks like a normal girl, very next door if you will, but still pretty, smart and at times a bit insecure too. And she looks unique. Her curly hair is awesome too. Should I figure her as a redhead? I should I guess
Thanks! Josh and I wanted somebody who looked like she could be from the real world. Even though it's a superhero comic, "Anyone but Virginia" is pretty down to earth and more is about the daily travails of being a superhero than the latest battle between a hero and villain. Thus, Josh created Virginia and I tried to make her look somewhat realistic in appearance, with some beauty but not highly-idealized like you see in a superhero comic. Of course, given my inclinations, Virginia/Volcano Girl's bust and butt size tended to sometimes get a little too much on the large size but Josh was always there to temper me down.
I liked a lot the last panel, loved the perspective and those photos, all the sequence looks pretty good to me. You know, I was thinking that maybe, for the style of your comics you should add the dialog balloons digitally too and not as a part of the page, or maybe you could try to draw them like they're over the panels and not forming part of them. what font do you use? it's quite pretty.
Thanks, Jade! I totally agree about the speech balloons. For the longest time, I've been wanting to add digitally speech balloons to my comic pages but never could find a reliable means to do so. I bought Manga Studio expressly for that but it wouldn't work on my computer and I couldn't figure out a way to do it in Photoshop that looked sleek or professional. Do you have any good suggestions?
As for the font, I'm not sure what it's called. Josh Eiserike (the writer of the comic) handles all the text (being the wordsmith he is) and, if memory serves me right, the font was something he created for his own comics and decided to use it on Virginia, as well.
