Description

A commissioned drawing by :iconthrandrall: for Veteran's Day a few days ago.

I've been itching to draw "Miss Lace" for some time now and Veteran's Day provided me the perfect excuse.  Miss Lace was a creation of the legendary cartoonist Milton Caniff (creator of "Terry and the Pirates" and "Steve Canyon") and appeared in the World War 2 era strip "Male Call".  The curvy character loved boys in uniforms, even though she didn't exactly have a good handle on the military ranking system.  She had a penchant for calling anyone in uniform a "general".  Nonetheless, she possessed a love and devotion to the guys in the military, a compassion that some of her more amorous admirers often took advantage of.

Anyhoo, here's my hand at drawing Caniff's "Miss Lace".  It's my hope that somewhere out there Milton's smiling.

I've seen a collection of Male Call strips. Milt Caniff did a nice cartoon to help the guys in uniforms have a laugh and admire a fine dame in between trips to the war zone. I can see she would be a character you would like. ;)
