Opey the Warhead Page 1 by cluedog Opey the Warhead Page 1 by cluedog
This is the first page of an upcoming webcomic I'm working on called "Opey the Warhead". It's the charming story of a living nuclear warhead who attends elementary school in a post-apocalyptic world.

Touching, is it not?

Isn't Oppenheimer the one who said "I have become death, the destroyer of worlds" upon the first detonation of the atomic bomb?

Rambear is quite cuddly, except you have to look out when cuddling him. That Stinger missile strapped to his back hurts!

A brilliant opening page - wonderful mood-setting lighting, and the character is instantly intriguing. I like the bedpost poking into the upper panel - nice touch. :)

Thanks! The top two panels took at least three bottles of ink to do all the crosshatching in them. Whew.

Thank you! The weird thing is, I hate lettering the text in the speech balloons (and use a computer font), but have no problems drawing sound effects.

Thank you! That page took me an eternity to finish (there's so much detail in it).

I had to think of a name of a rock band that might exist in the post-apocalyptic future, so "Armageddon Youth" was the name I thought of.

Thanks for the comments on the Opey pages. They do take me a long time to draw, and the process can be very frustrating. I'm a perfectionist, but my artwork is nowhere near perfect. Still, I can't help it. I love drawing.

I'm hoping to use these pages in an upcoming webcomic, but I'm still struggling on creating a suitable background template for the website.

Opey isn't short for Opunaesala by any chance, is it?

Opey is short for "Oppenheimer", the American scientist who took part in the Manhattan project and helped build the first atomic bomb. I must confess, I've never seen "Opunaesala" before. What does that mean?

Oh, heh. Opunaesala is the screen nickname of a fellow I know who's always called Opey for short.

I know who Oppenheimer is, I was fairly sure that your naming was based on either him or 'Opie' from the Andy Griffith Show (or maybe there's a dual reference there?), but I figured it didn't hurt to be sure there wasn't some kind of 'small-world' cooincidence going on.
