Thanks! I don't know how many versions I went through to get to this one, but here is one such version: [link]

It's a lot more cartoony and manga-looking.

They both have that pop-up effect, but I like the one I saw today (today?) better, because of the expression, and it has greater contrast in styles, that nicely breaks the panel.

The expressions in this one are ideal - perfect for a big splash panel. :)

Wow, nice. Their expressions are great. What do you use to draw these pages?

Thanks for the compliments (and even looking at my work).

I draw the pages use one of those old-school dip pens (you know, the ones where you dip a knib into an ink bottle and draw using the knib). More specifically, I use a Hunt-108 knib and Higgins Eternal Waterproof ink. The Hunt-108 is great because its flexible and can do a nice range of lines (from very thin to very thick).

You're welcome!
I was certain that you had used more than one tool, but I see now. That's really cool. Thanks for the answer, I'll have to look into that. ^^

The boys expression just captivated me! It really looks natural and beautiful.
This story has such macabre atmosphere on it and in this page its very highlighted, or at least I felt so. The old building just gives the chills.

I've been working hard to try to make the prison look like a rotting old decayed building. Creating the feel of a particular time and place in my artwork is a personal passion for me.

Still, I feel as though I overinked the boy in the center of the composition.

Lol. Yeah, the Spiky kid does look a little weird. :)

I appreciate your comment about the inking, though. I felt maybe I overinked the page.

Graet. What technic do you use with this gray shadows?

I use a really fine nib, a Hunt-108, to create the gray shadows. The nib is so fine it can produce the thin lines necessary for the gray shadow effect. I simply draw enough thin lines within a given area until I get the shade I want.

I love that even though they're holding classes in the old prison and the one kid has a spiked Mohawk, they're wearing uniforms. You are too much...

Great work!

They look like Hogwarts students! Except more unruly! Like the Hogwart rejects that make the school look bad so they put them in a special class all of their own! Ya, it just had to be said....

I appreciate your comment (and fave). I must confess, however, I find this page rather ugly. I think I really overinked Panel 3, and Panel 1 is too simplistic for my liking.

But, then again, I never do like my artwork. :)
