Poor Opey. Awesome layout, the fourth panel popping out is really effective . . .

Thank you so much. Opey is the post-atomic Charlie Brown. :)

The raid adds a very poignant aspect to this - for a character who is essentially featureless, it's easy to empathise with him. :(

It certainly is a challenge emoting Opey's feelings to the readers, that's for sure. :)

it would be prudent to watch what they say to the warhead.

You used the rain in such new and fresh way in expressing saddness. Some might say it´s a cliché, but really this feels like you´ve made something completely own. Very depressing and effective page overall.

Thanks, Sutinen. When making the ending of this story, I thought about just having Opey sitting in the rain and let his body do all the communicating. But then I thought, why not let him have something of a real face on the last pages of the comic? So, I came up with the whole marker face thingy, introducing it as a joke, hoping that it would make it have more impact by the end of the comic. It's been done before, as you note, but it seemed to fit perfectly with where I was going with the story, so I couldn't help myself.

It sort of represents not only Opey's feelings, but his Dad's delusion that he instilled upon the boy going down the drain.

Yes, there´s lots of symbolism in the marker face. You´ve used it well in the plotline and to awake many feelings in the readers. That´s ingenious actually!

Does the comic end in here?

There's only one more page after this one, and then I may continue the series in a second issue. If I did, it would introduce a new character, and would further detail the plight of not only Opey but explain more about the setting of "Opey the Warhead".

I've read the Opey-comic-pages until this one today, and I must say I'm stunned! Not only that your drawing is just amazing, it's also getting better with every page - you're getting more and more professional with every single line you draw, and it's just soooo amazing! :wow: I'm really speachless... great work!
I'm so looking forward to the next pages!!!

The closest I've ever come to crying reading a comic.

Poor Opey! I have a feeling he'll have his day, but they're gonna make him pay every moment until then.

The pathos you've evoked with that final panel will sit with me all day... Pure genius!

The last three panels are poetically beautiful as well as tragic. :) The rain washing away Opey's face is a crown jewel. Some might think it's a cliché but whatever it is, it works for this page and this story.

Thank you. I hope Opey is turning out to be the right blend of drama and humor. I don't want the comic to be too depressing, but I don't want to water down the drama either.

What's strange here is that the marker face is only a facade, and underneath it is nothing. That's Opey's true expression. That's just one of the weird things about this character.

This issue has only one more page left in it.

fuck Dude, what you trying to do here, see how sad you can make all of us.???? What the hell, Im not a man that cries often, only in movies like Die Hard and Superman Returns.... and the lion king, and Highlander and click, okay dammit, I cry all the time, but now you gone and made my mascara run.... jeeeziz man..... give Opey a break, I hate those kids, specially that straight haired snob bastard.... please, kill him! :)

Erm, otherwise, fantastic story.... not only the art, but the emotions you are evoking with your readers, identifying with opey, not on the freak level, but being bullied and ostricized.... why would anyone screw with a war head tho.... thats the question Im wondering..... the other one everyone probably is wondering is... IS OPEY able to fart.?

Thanks for the wonderful comment, and the fave.

Those kids bugging Opey are pure forces of satanic evil. That poor nuke...

As to whether Opey is capable of flatulence or not, I'm not sure, although any gas coming from a nuclear weapon boy can't be good or healthy. :)

I've already started on page 23, the last page.

It's getting more and more dramatic. So not only can you draw (and you draw good, damnit) but you can also tell stories! Do you realise how talented you are Zac? Because if you were doubting it, I'm telling you: you have heaps of talent! The pouring rain holds more emotion than any words could have done there! You really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really need to get published! Really! :D

Wow, what a stunning comment. Truly high praise.

You know, every time I look at my drawings, I sort of cringe. The flaws in the drawings seem to leap out at me. But, words like your own make me feel a lot better.

There's only one page left, and then this issue is over. In the next one, a new character appears on the scene. :)

Will you sell the finished piece? Do you self-produce/self-distribute the books or do you have an editor that could do that for you?

More cringing and I'll get my stick! :giggle: You've been warned! :D

I don't have any plans for selling or self-publishing Opey (I don't have the money).

I also don't have an editor who can help in any of those regards.

Opey exists as a webcomic on WebcomicsNation, but my page views on that site have been very low (even on my best days, the page views fall well below the average of the other webcomics on the site). Here on DA, Opey has some great readers (such as yourself) which I'm lucky and grateful to have, but they solicit fewer views than my fan or gender bender drawings.
